The hallmarks of agriculture tours in Kenya are tea, coffee, flowers, fresh vegetables, dairy cows and great wildlife viewing.

The tour kicks off with a visit to the Kiambethu Tea Farm in Limuru, then moves to the Sangare Tented Camp in the Aberdares / Mt. Kenya area for coffee, vegetable and dairy farm visits.

Wildlife viewing at Sangare will be by the style of the early settlers, which was by foot as well as by vehicle. Guided walking safaris, a day outing to the Solio Rhino conservancy and a night at the Ark, a tree hotel in the Aberdares, will be one of the many the highlights of the 1st leg of the tour.

The Rift Valley, the region the settlers called the White Lands, is a now the epicenter of Kenya ‘s commercial farming. We have access to flower and vegetable farms which we will combine with visits to the Crater Lake and Crescent Island game sanctuaries and Hell’s Gate National Park, all great areas for watching giraffes, wildebeests, waterbucks, elands, zebras, gazelles and colorful Kenyan birds.

The Lake Elementaita area will be our next stop with 2 nights at the Sunbird Lodge from where we will take a day for visiting Lake Nakuru National Park.

Masai Mara, the Africa that everyone dreams of takes the last 3 nights of the tour with Elephants, Lions, Leopards, Cheetahs, Topis and Hippos all calling for our attention. A walk guided by Masai Morans makes this a perfect tour in all senses.

Agriculture Tours. Day 1: Nairobi

Arrival at the airport at night and reception by Ontdek Kenya. Transfer from the airport to the Nairobi Safari Club or equivalent hotel in Nairobi.

Day 2: Kiambethu Tea Farm. O/N in Nairobi

Our agriculture tours start with a visit at the Kiambethu Tea Farm in the Limuru area. This is an old colonial home established by the early settlers and the pioneers of tea growing in Kenya. There will be a talk on tea: its arrival in Kenya, the growing, processing and up to when you put it into your cup.

We have a healthy farm lunch and we will walk in the tea plantation and visit the nearby tea factory. Time allowing there will be a visit to the National Museum in Nairobi in the late afternoon. O/N Nairobi Safari Club or equivalent.

Agriculture Tours. Day 3: Sangare Tented Camp (2 nights)

A 3 hrs transfer takes you to Nyeri in central Kenya, home of the Kikuyu tribe. You will drive through the main farming areas of Kenya with coffee and pineapple plantations. We will make a stop at the open air Karatina market, which is the biggest farm produce market in the region.

A brief on Sangare Ranch:

Sangare is a 6500 acre private wildlife conservancy sandwiched between the Aberdares and Mt. Kenya. The 12-tent camp overlooks a fresh water lake full of exciting bird life and where game comes to drink. The Sangare Hill forms a magnificent backdrop for the camp.

The ranch whose habitat is open savannah with scattered bushes is home to zebras, giraffes, antelopes, warthogs, leopards, hyenas, elephants and buffaloes. Bird life in Sangare is rich with + 300 birds species reordered.

The tents are spacious and luxurious with four poster beds, unique African furnishing, private verandahs and en suite facilities with flush toilets and shower.

2 full days for vehicle game drives and optional soft walks completely away from mass tourism.

Agriculture Tours. Day 4: Visit a Flower Farm and the Solio Rhino Ranch


After breakfast we drive to the nearby farm whose specialty is growing roses for the export market. We will see the farm operation, grading and packing.

We then proceed to the Solio Rhino Ranch for an extensive game drive which should yield Black and White Rhino, Reticulated Giraffe, Leopard, Lion and a wide range of plains game and bird life.

Lunch is at the Sangare Camp. Last night at Sangare.

Agriculture Tours. Day 5: Visit Coffee Farm / Dairy Farm and The Ark in the Aberdares

Morning visit to a coffee / dairy farm, lunch at the Aberdare Country Club. Time allowing we make a walk before going to the Ark, a tree hotel in the Aberdare National Park.

The game viewing at the flood-lit water hole is an all-night show as elephants, rhinos, hyenas, various gazelles, warthogs, giant forest hogs, the elusive bongo and with luck a leopard or a lion may pay a visit.

Agriculture Tours. Day 6: Crescent Island Walk. O/N Lake Naivasha Sawela Lodge or equivalent

Leave the Aberdares region and go to the Rift Valley, aiming to reach our base the Lake Naivasha Sawela Lodge, in time for lunch. This recently opened lodge has beautiful grounds and lawns.

In the afternoon we do a game-viewing walk at the privately owned Crescent Island, which is a peninsula on the eastern shore of Lake Naivasha. There is a lot of easy to see game e.g. giraffes, waterbucks, elands, zebras and impalas. It is also a heaven for birds with +200 species recorded. The walk is gentle and satisfying. We return to the lodge in time for afternoon tea.

Day 7: Visit a Vegetable Farm + Crater Lake Game Sanctuary. O/N Lake Naivasha Sawela Lodge or equivalent

Morning visit to a commercial vegetable farm and / or a flower farm and then proceed to the Crater Lake Game Sanctuary. It is a lesser lake in the Rift Valley but a place where nature is at its best.

We do a soft walk in the sanctuary followed by a trek on the crater rim from where we see the lake from various angles. Pleasant sightings will be from giraffes, black and white Colobus monkeys, elands and a range of gazelles.

Agriculture Tours. Day 8: Dairy Farm + Hell’s Gate National Park. O/N Lake Naivasha Sawela Lodge or equivalent

Morning visit a commercial dairy farm. Then proceed to Hell’s Gate Park.

The beauty of Hell’s Gate is in open savannah plains that are sandwiched by massive volcanic rocks. A guided walk in the park will likely yield clear sights of giraffes, zebras, warthogs and gazelles.

Back to the Sawela Lodge for overnight.

Day 9: Lake Elementaita. O/N Sunbird Lodge

Transfer to the Lake Elementaita area, where we will stay for 2 nights at the Sunbird lodge, which is a small and luxurious lodge built on a cliff overlooking the lake and the surrounding hills. The Sunbird Lodge is not just a place to overnight; it is a place for total relaxation.

Optional activities for the afternoon are a walk along Lake Elementaita or a visit to a prehistoric site.

Day 10: Visit Lake Nakuru National Park. O/N Sunbird Lodge The nearby Nakuru National Park is the eldest park of Kenya. It's not only known for its thousands of flamingos but also for the vast herds of buffaloes, tens of rhinos and cats like leopard and lion. Of the big five only the elephant is missing.

Agriculture Tours. Day 11: To Masai Mara. O/N Mara Leisure or Ashnil Mara Tented Camp

We now take a break from walking to put all our attention to watching wildlife. To see the best of Kenyan wildlife Masai Mara is the place to be. Elephants, rhinos, giraffes, buffaloes, gazelles and all the big cats are found here. So, after breakfast we start our journey passing through Narok Town; a colorful Masai town.


Our game viewing does not actually start at the park gate. We will be able to see many animals along the way grazing side by side with the Masai livestock. We reach the tented camp, our home for the next three days, in time for lunch.

Agriculture Tours. Day 12 + 13: Masai Mara. O/N Mara Leisure or Ashnil Mara Tented Camp

These are our cultural and activity days in Masai Mara. We do a morning game drive through the park and then take a walk in a ranch outside the park guided by Masai Morans. A visit to the manyatta will show how the typical Masais live. An afternoon game drive makes the day complete.

On day 13 we explore the park further on a full day game drive or by morning and afternoon game drive.

Day 14: Transfer to Nairobi. Lunch and day room at the Jacaranda Hotel

Leave Mara after breakfast and head towards Nairobi. Lunch is at the Jacaranda Hotel. Day rooms are provided for use until 6 p.m. The Jacaranda Hotel is next to a shopping mall where you can go for your last minute shopping.

Evening transfer to the airport for outbound flight.
